1930s? Baptist Tabernacle

ID: 8998
Copyright: Image held by Kyne family
Org ID: CL PIC 151

Description: Size: 147 x 236 mm The Baptist Tabernacle, now demolished, was a substantial timber building on the north side of Sackville Street near Gold Street. This photo was presumably take on the same day as the one described in record 150 as the street is flooded. A large group of children and adults has crowded into the grounds of the church while some of the children are making the most of the opportunity to stand in the street with their trouser legs rolled up. A notice over the left porch reads 'All seats free', a reference to the fact that pew rents were not charged in this church.
