Description: B&W photograph Captain George Ward Cole(1793-1879) was taken from a painting by John Irvine, Edinburgh in 1858.Cpt Ward Cole married Thomas Anne McCrea in 1842 and settled at St Ninians in Brighton. Member of the Legislative Council 1863. Purchased the site known as Cole's Wharf 1841. He had formerly been an officer in the Royal Navy and the Mercantile Marine service and captained his own ships.
