Description: Born at Larne, North Ireland on October 1, 1795; arrived in Victoria 1839; died at Melbourne August 16, 1855. Built Balmerino House, said to have cost 100,000 pounds. Speculated freely in Toorak and eventually realised a handsome fortune. He was a descendant of the Scottish Lord Balmerino the Jacobite, who favoured and fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie.
