Description: Photo of the south west corner of the intersection of Chapel Street and Commercial Road, showing Loyer's Prahran Hotel and two buildings comprising Charles Read's store: the shop in Chapel Street and a Despatch Office around the corner in Commercial Road. In 1913, the vast shopping emporium (now known as Prahran Central) was built on the site of the hotel. Large signs attached to the delivery wagons advertise the salvage sale for the Royal Mail Steamer Orizaba, which occured in May 1905 (see #11574)
