On the corner of Hoddle and Gipps is the Royal George Hotel, and the two-storeyed verandahed building a few doors up is a bakery. The grocer's on the corner of Hoddle and Langridge streets has an advertisement for Velvet soap painted on its side wall. Beyond this is a general vista of houses, shops, churches and factories as far as Victoria Parade.
