      Description:  Size:  202 x 254 mm William Pitt and his dog in the grounds of his house 'Mikado' at 96 Trenerry Crescent.  This house stood on the present site of Country Road.  An industrial chimney can be seen in the background.  Pitt, born in Melbourne in 1855, commenced practice as an architect in 1879.  Favouring the Gothic style, he was responsible for many well-known buildings including Gordon House, the Melbourne Stock Exchange, the Rialto and Olderfleet buildings, St. Kilda and Brunswick town halls, the Foy and Gibson warehouses and the Victoria brewery in Victoria Parade.  He also designed many theatres and re-designed the Princess Theatre in 1888.  In private life he was a keen sportsman and prize-winning marksman.
