Description: Image held at Richmond Library. A photograph from the Richmond Advocate newspaper of the old library in Church St. It shows the single storey, ninenteenth century building with its handsome Italianate facade, consisting of three arches (two windows and a door on the right), separated by Corinthian columns, surmounted by a pediment. The old building was demolished in July 1973 amid some controversy, to make way for the present library building. It had served as a public library from 1878 to 1958, and was then used by an Antarctic research organisation until 1968. For more information, consult local history files RFC 50, and RFC 107.
