Description: Image held at Richmond Library. The photograph shows men posed in front of the machinery for operating the underground cables in an engine house. An engine house was located on the north-east corner of Bridge Rd and Hoddle St, Richmond. The Richmond line closed in 1927 replaced by electric trams. For further information refer to John D. Keating's 'Mind the Curve' and to Jack Cranston's 'The Melbourne Cable Trams 1885-1940'.
